Through two videos that I directed and edited, Colors Belgium reveals the deep impact of racism and its devastating effects on individual identity. The first video highlights racism at its social and cultural roots. The second, more personal and intimate, explores the unseen trauma experienced by children exposed to racial stereotypes. It illustrates the loss of identity, a complex process where a child is reduced to imposed stereotypes, leading to a destabilising transformation. This raises questions about integration, assimilation, and self-perception in a world shaped by discrimination.
These videos do more than tell a story, they spark reflection. They challenge us to think about our society’s values, how perceptions are shaped, and the impact of racism on identity, especially for those from marginalised communities.
